Playa Grande draws surfers, families and people who prefer a slower pace. The surf is consistent year-round, the streets are calm, and Tamarindo's larger choice of restaurants and services is about 25 minutes away by road, or a short panga boat ride across the estuary.
When you compare properties, look at how close each one is to the beach and the protected areas, and whether it sits in a gated community such as Las Ventanas or Corona del Cabo or on an open street.
