COVID-19 Entry Info

covid-19 requirements in costa rica

If you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, you will be happy to learn that virtually all restrictions dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted.

This means, visitors and returning residents are not required to prove vaccination status in order to enter Costa Rica.

As of April 2022, all previous COVID entry requirements were sunsetted. Travelers are not required to quarantine, nor show a health pass, carry travel insurance, nor produce proof of a negative COVID-19 test upon entry.

If you are not a resident (temporary or permanent), you likely will be asked by immigration how long you plan to stay and where you will be staying. This is standard intake procedure from immigration and does not include contact tracing requirements.

You are still able to access quick and affordable COVID testing in Costa Rica, should you have any concerns while in the country. Additionally, if your country of origin requires a negative test prior to reentry, you can obtain one 24-72 hours prior to your departure at many participating laboratories and CAJA locations.

Should you experience an illness while in Costa Rica, you will not be penalized for overstaying your tourist visa.
