Swimming in Playa Grande can be challenging due its bigger waves and strong rip currents in the open sea. Caution is advised when entering the water.  If you happen to catch a rip current, swim sideways until the current eases up and you will be able swim back in.

  1. What is the distance from Playa Grande to the nearest airport in Costa Rica?

The closest airport to Playa Grande is Tamarindo Airport, which is approximately 3.9 km away. Other nearby airports include Liberia Airport at 44.8 km, Nosara Beach Airport at 44.9 km, and San Jose Airport at 183.4 km.

  1. Can you easily walk from Playa Grande to Tamarindo?

Walking from Playa Grande to Tamarindo involves crossing an estuary and then navigating a long stretch of soft sand for about 35 minutes.  We do not advise this because of the possibility of crocodiles in the water.  For approximately $2-4US a panga boat taxi will come and pick you up and take you across the estuary from Playa Grande to Playa Tamarindo.  Alternatively, driving between these two points takes about 25 minutes on paved roads or 15-20 minutes on gravel roads.
